Effect of string gauge on tone?
What are the effects of changing to a far heavier rope on the pitch? I want a tone jazz, so I use D'Addario Chromes (Jazz Light meter: 11 ~ 50) and want to switch to low size (12 ~ 52) or even medium size (13 ~ 56). Could Chain life be long / short / the same? Could my darker / brighter? What effect would in my neck of the guitar? Is it the only find out how to put it on and find out? PS (I play an American Vintage '52 Telecaster RI, and playing with the Pickup Selector in mid dial Tone Knob almost completely downward)
Going to a Light Gauge string will provide a brilliant but can as tone. Like waving a heavy good glass of wine compared with a glass cheaper thinner. You will receive less support due to lower overall tension on the ropes, and have a shorter life from strings lose thin your blood before. Finally you may need to adjust the Truss Rod and the use of thinner ropes that provide less of a bow in the neck.
