Noise Suppressor

Power conditioning is one of the lesser known but equally important functions of an uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). Its main objective, of course, is to provide a power source of energy to maintain business continuity through an interruption in the mains or until a source alternative energy (as a generator) is started.

Why the need for power conditioning?

There is issues related to raw electricity network can cause problems for electronic equipment. These include, but are not limited to: low voltage, overload, voltage drops, spikes and transients, electrical noise, harmonics, frequency variations and, of course, complete blackouts. At best, power problems can cause equipment (including computers and telecommunications) to block or accident. At worst, can lead to a complete break - which means the repair costly and disruptive and / or replacement. In the case of computers, can also result in data being lost or corrupted, for many industries that are heavily regulated (such as banking and finance) can be detrimental to businesses, damaging to the reputation and credibility, and in extreme cases, can lead to fines and penalties.

Power conditioning, therefore, for uninterrupted power supplies and associated equipment, is a process which monitors the mains input, clean and significantly reduces the effects of problems such as those mentioned already. Some of UPS include special filters, can reduce the effect of harmonics. All UPS to maintain frequency within prescribed limits so the correction of frequency fluctuations. Power Conditioners

Power conditioners to attenuate the peaks, transients and electrical noise voltages at low levels. They can be Solid State or transformer-based mail. Rest is history in the design of uninterruptible power supply since the 1980s (known as Ferro UPS), which pairs with a UPS CVT interactive online for a no-break output. Although reliable and robust, this type of uninterruptible power supply only was practical for single-phase installations and could not compete on cost, noise, physical size and weight, transformer, UPS designs that were beginning to emerge.

Automatic voltage stabilizers (AVS)

AVS provide protection against declines voltage, brownouts and overvoltages. They can be electro-mechanical or solid state electronic devices and are often as Automatic Regulators Voltage (AVR). AVS windows usually have input voltage range (less than 40 to more than 20%) so they can do their job. When a supply of low or High Power voltage network, a control circuit transformer to select a setting Buck (step down) or raise (increase) the voltage to more acceptable levels. The voltage output tracks the input voltage window as there is, generally, there is no voltage regulation.

Some Stablisers incorporate automatic voltage a filter to provide both the load and AVS with the protection of the peaks, transients and electrical noise. The main application of AVS is in remote areas where sinks, tides and blackouts are common to protect equipment such as refrigerators, freezers and household appliances.

Filters and filter strips

Filters provide protection against spikes, transients and electrical noise. Instead of mitigating problems such as conditioners power filters, peak voltage clamp to preset levels and prevent harmful electrical noise passing through the connected loads.

A number of available filters and results vary considerably across the range. Filter (increase) strips, for example, are commonly used in ICT environments for distribution energy. At the higher end, more specialized filters can be purchased for specialized environments such as scientific laboratories. The filter performance, the level of support and the response speed depends on circuit design and size of the disturbance it faces.

Suppressors transient voltage suppressor (TVSS)

TVSS provide protection against transient voltages and high energy peaks, particularly those caused in the power supply of a building by local lightning. They are assessed in terms of amplifiers (A) or joules (J) dissipate. Usually, they sit parallel to the load and only react when presented an increase in temporary energy or high.

When installed on a building, a "zonal approach", it is recommended that high nominal devices before switchboards. A TVSS can be mounted in front of a UPS or inside a bypass panel, generator or distribution of AMF panel boards nearby lightning protection.

TVSS designs tend to rely on Varistors metal oxide (MOV) instead of gas discharge tubes (GDTs) are typically in surge suppressors. Some manufacturers combine their designs with a silicon avalanche diode MOV (SAD) front-end to accelerate its response time.
