The fly rod, the symbol of the sport of fly fishing. The rod transfers power and control of the fishermen through the line fly. For adequate power and control to be maintained must use the appropriate fly rod for your type of fishing.

Rods also come in 3 basic steps, slow, medium and fast. A slow bar has a progressive transfer of energy and bend the tip of her backside. Has slower acting and casting is very lenient in its quality accuracy. It is a good rod for a beginning fly fisherman. Though it has no power to set hooks in heavy fish. A medium action rod bends from tip to near its halfway point. Its action is faster and quality of power is allowing beaver make the hooks on larger fish for a given weight of cane. A fast action rod bends from the tip to the first third of its length. Has faster action quality and allows a more hook.

6wt and 7wt medium action fly rods are the most popular fly rods on the market today. Your fishing line provides more flexibility in options for water and fish species. And shall cast them comfortably form 20 to 40 feet. Regardless of what you hear the typical model is about 25 feet.

For bass fishing in a lake, I like to use a medium action rod 6wt 8 foot. With this setup you can catch flies form size 2 to 16 leading 0x to 4x. The medium action means you can get a great mouse floating # 2 fly about 25 feet. Flies in the size range 2 to 6 are my choice for largemouth bass. Whether you float or sink. Lots of feathers and lots of hair.

Set this with a 6wt rod, weight forward floating fly line in a single action 6wt reel with 50 to 100 meters Dacron support.

Use a leader knotless tapered from 7 to 9 feet 0x or 1x created with 12 to 16 inches with 0x or 1x tippet tied to the end.

These are the fundamentals and with this setting can turn flies in the size range 2 to 10. Once you hook the first time on a fly rod you will be hooked too.
