It can be very profitable to soften hard water because it does not readily form lather with soap. This makes the soap is lost when it comes to a lather, and as result of a foam may form. A water softener works on the idea of cation or ion exchange in which ions the hardness minerals are exchanged for sodium ions or potassium, thus reducing the concentration of hardness minerals to tolerable levels.

The addition of sodium carbonate also softens hard water containing calcium sulfate such as calcium ions form calcium carbonate precipitates and sodium sulfate formed is soluble. The calcium carbonate formed sinks to the bottom, and sodium sulfate has no effect on water hardness.

As you can see there are some relatively simple ways to eliminate hard water from your water supply and the target = "_new"> hard water spots that cause.
