Finishing the guitar, what stage do I add a vinyl sticker, and how is sealed?
I am refinishing an old guitar. I sand down to raw wood and I am thinking about painting, but I want to add a vinyl sticker that looks cooler. What phase of paint should I apply the decal, and how could definitely seal the guitar? I plan to order the decal: http://www.tarcalgraphics.com/ any help or advice is appreciated! I read that these vinyl stickers do not work well with nitrocellulose lacquer, clear coats are also available that do not take them?
According to application instructions, had not been suggested for the clear coat the guitar, once installed the new sticker to guitar. It seems that the decal is printed on vinyl signs. Products such as hairspray, if fresh, may possibly wrinkle or lift the decal. The suggestion Appling the decal of a Fresta "sticky" transparent topcoat is a good suggestion, due to the fact that as the finish dries, it "shrinks" This will make the decal once again, wrinkles or elevator. If the decal is a "printed" sticker, the application of a layer transparent on the sticker, will protect the decal. The only goal that I normally use in the instruments, lacquer, because, I can repair the damage that occur in the instrument. Another finish, but not repair. End guitars I've seen the new "plastic finishes" used as coatings on automobiles, they are very durable, but also very expensive for materials. My suggestion is to contact a luthier and get his opinion. A word of warning is that the end of the factory, are formulated to provide the best protection, and appearance to the instrument. Aftermarket finished, do not always give you the sound quality you expect.
