trying to locate 4 Arm odd size shower chrome handles post 7 / 16 inch diameter, 16 slots in the end?
old house, very shower old hardware. handles look a lot like these: http://www.plumbingsupply.com/images/franzv-faucet-u20364.jpg The local hardware store is responsible for replacement, but have 10 or 12 slots inside the shaft hole and the hollow shaft where it enters the mother are much smaller than 7 / 16 inch. It is a strange size. While granting a nut that compresses the handle in the mother and not use a screw drive like most, I guess if I find an identifier that has a hole that is the right size I can find a way to reconnect.
Your best bet is to consult with antique furniture restoration / dealers who specialize in old doors, windows and hardware.
